‘The Smarteez’

On July 26, 2010 by Its EH

‘The Smarteez’ are a collective of Johannesburg’s flyest youngsters made up of Kepi, Sibu, Floyd and Thabo. The South African fashionistas fuse a mix of DIY clothing and modern styling, but with a distinct uniqueness. Even if your not a fan of their style, surely they deserve their props, designing these pieces from what’s available to them! These Sowetan fresh kids, who like many, are too young to remember the apartheid struggle of their parents, claim that their “struggle” is now one against blandness and conformity – to them, it’s all about partying, self-expression and challenging stereotypes, following the mantra of: “I was born into the free world… It’s my freedom to take for granted.”

Look out for these unmistakeable fresh kids as they are getting quite a lot of attention from Europe… could you clash their freshness???

Check out the video about ‘The Smarteez’ and more pics after the jump.
